Nirmala Sitharaman, the Indian finance minister gave a response to former US President Barack Obama's comments on Indian Muslim's rights on Sunday. At a press conference held at the party's headquarters in New Delhi, FM Nirmala Sitharaman disagreed with Obama's remarks and cited his administration’s military interventions in countries with a majority of Muslims.
The minister then criticized Obama's controversial media appearance in which he declared his desire to speak with Prime Minister Modi about the situation of Indian Muslims. "I was shocked," stated the finance minister. A former US President was speaking about Indian Muslims when PM Modi was campaigning in the US i.e. speaking about India.
In addition to this, she stated how can people believe the claims of a former president whose administration ordered the dropping of more than 26,000 bombs on six countries with a majority of Muslims. The minister further added that this statement can be a deliberate attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in this country. She said that her government does not discriminate against any community and PM Modi's dedication to the "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" has been continuously emphasized in the nation.
Additionally, Sitharaman criticized Congress and other opposition parties for making unproven claims following electoral losses.
