The FICCI FLO held a seminar on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kolkata, focusing on empowering women entrepreneurs. The event offered resources, networking opportunities, and expert advice to navigate the challenges of the MSME sector. Expert panels and keynote speeches discussed topics like funding, financial management, innovation, and market expansion.
The Women's Wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry featured prominent speakers and delegates including the President of the MSME Development Forum, West Bengal Chapter, Mamta Binani; Zonal Head of Central Bank of India, Mr. PC Khurana; and Director of Suvidha Consultants Limited, Sunil Bhoruka. The session highlighted India's 96 per cent small sector as a key economic driver, promoting entrepreneurship and creating employment opportunities with low capital investment. Workshops and interactive sessions aimed to enhance business skills. Government initiatives and case studies were also discussed during the event.
West Bengal has the second-highest number of MSME units in India, contributing 30 per cent to the GDP and employing 11 crore individuals. The Ministry of MSME is introducing new schemes to empower women entrepreneurs, starting July 1st. These schemes will offer support to women-led startups, requiring women to hold at least 51 per cent of the shares. This initiative aims to foster women's leadership in the Indian startup ecosystem and contribute to overall economic growth.
