FICCI FLO held an event to honour women who have steadily made contributions to the growth of the city and the community, honouring ageless women achievers from the area. The actress Zeenat Aman was invited as a special guest to honour these women.
The actor said that she thought Amritsari women were incredibly gifted and defied every stereotype that leading ladies in the Hindi film business were expected to conform into in the 1970s and 1980s.
“I feel happy meeting and interacting with such talented bunch of women, who are balancing careers and families with such grace. I believe that a woman can make all difference and these achievers who we honoured today prove it,” she said.
The celebration honoured women from a variety of backgrounds who have contributed to empowering others and strengthening communities, whether through their work in business or philanthropy. Laxmi Kanta Chawla, a senior member of the BJP, Dr. Jasjit Chhachhi, Dr. Suprabha Arya, an accomplished dancer who had represented her country in an international folk dance competition in 1942, Shukla Seth, a businessman and philanthropist who runs a handicraft school, Dr. Saroj Sanan, an author and educator who is 93 years old, and Ambica Omprakash, a philanthropist who helped set up Om Prakash Eye Hospital in the city.
Zeenat praised these successful women as models for others to imitate. Zeenat described Amritsar as a warm city and described how she would spend her two days shopping and touring well-known food destinations. I really like the lassi and kulcha here, she said.
The campaign "Be a Baghaban" was launched by FLO Amritsar in collaboration with the Green Couple of Punjab, Geetanjali Mehra and Rohit Mehra, according to FLO chairperson Shikha Sareen. Each FLO member has pledged to be a plant parent and care for their adopted plant as part of this effort. Shikha remarked, "It's a deliberate action to stop global warming and make our planet greener.
