The delegation, including APEDA officials and members of AMTOI, represented a notable 40-member team, a record-breaking assembly in its own right.

This visit coincided with the 150th-anniversary celebrations of Mumbai Port, which has seen an evolutionary journey from a humble trading post on June 26, 1873, to one of the pivotal and busiest ports in the country. Its instrumental role in the growth of Mumbai and the nation's maritime industry was underscored during this commemoration.

The port currently hosts various ongoing projects, including the significant SAGARMALA Programme, the targeted completion of Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) by December 2024, the Third Chemical Berth (TCB) at Pir Pau, and the New Fish Jetty at Mallet Bunder, scheduled for October 2025.

Anticipated future projects were also revealed during the visit. These encompassed schemes such as the monetization of New Sewree Warehouse, Base Oil Tankage at Mallet Bunder, a resort development at Thal Khob, a Green Cement Terminal at Indira Docks, a Logistics Park at Titwala, and the planned conversion of Mallet Bunder into a Fish Tourism destination.

Further discussions unveiled future digital and automation initiatives, emphasizing innovation. These encompassed Port EBS, AI/ML-based Cybersecurity, NLP Marine, IoT-based Connected Tug Boats, an AI-based Automated Berthing System, an Integrated Access Control & Surveillance System, GIS-based EOMS, and the 5G implementation at the Port.

During the visit, Chaitaly highlighted Mumbai Port's strengths, applauding its robust infrastructure, diverse cargo handling capacities, and notable terminals for automotive and oil cargo. Additionally, Mumbai Port ranks second in India for liquid handling, boasting a 16% market share, along with pioneering the largest Oil Terminal and providing superior urban water transport facilities.

The port’s distinction as a 'Green Port' accentuates its commitment to research, innovation, consultancy, and skill development, signalling a comprehensive hub for industry advancements and discoveries. This visit highlighted the pioneering and forward-thinking initiatives taking place at Mumbai Port, steering the maritime industry towards a sustainable and progressive future.
