According to the Better Places Frontline Index Report, the demand for frontline jobs in India decreased by 17.5 per cent in FY23, with 6.6 million jobs created as opposed to 8 million in FY22.
Between FY22 and FY23, the percentage of women working in front-line positions increased from 3 per cent to 6 per cent. The report also focuses on salary trends and the shifting nature of the industries that employ front-line workers.
The decline in front-line jobs is attributed to "The Great Variable-isation" trend, according to Pravin Agarwala, co-founder and group CEO of human capital management platform BetterPlace.
The report also mentions that, with the exception of the manufacturing, logistics, and mobility sectors, women's average monthly salaries in FY23 were 20.5 per cent which is lower than the industry average.
Due to an increase in demand of more than 111 per cent between FY22 and FY23, the logistics and mobility sector has surpassed e-commerce as the industry with the highest employment for front-line workers in FY23. Despite a 52 per cent decline in demand since last year, e-commerce is still the second largest employer, accounting for 33 per cent of all jobs.
