Equal Women's Participation is Required to Make India a "Vishwa Guru," Says RSS Chief

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) president Mohan Bhagwat praised the Indian family system, saying that respect and empowerment of women should start at home and that they should be given their proper role in society.
He claimed that although women are revered as the "mother of the universe" or "jagat janani," they are treated as "slaves" in their own households.
The RSS leader was addressing in Nagpur at the debut of the first volume of the book Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Charitra.
Bhagwat emphasised the value of women in achieving the goal of India regaining its position as a "vishwa guru," or global leader.
"If we want to build a vishwa guru Bharat then just men's participation was not enough. Equal participation of women was also required and for this a systematic change should come in the 50 per cent population (consisting of women) in the country," he said.
The RSS leader claimed it was very challenging to generalise about the situation of Indian women.
Each person has a unique situation and upbringing, as well as unique issues and solutions to those issues, he noted.
According to Bhagwat, since the beginning of time, there has never been a dispute over who the superior man or woman is since they are both equal and must coexist.
He claimed that critics of morals, marriage, women's rights, and families around the world are currently studying the Indian family structure. "What we have been saying for thousands of years (about virtues of Indian family system), they talking about it now," the RSS leader said.
Time To Consider Whether Women Are Being Placed in Their Proper Roles
It is time to consider whether or not women are given their proper place in their homes, according to Bhagwat.
On the one hand, we think of them as jagat janani, but at home, we treat them like slaves. The RSS leader emphasised the importance for providing women with a supportive atmosphere while also stating that women should be educated, empowered, and informed, and that this process should begin at home.
