Duolingo English Test (DET) has launched the DETermined Scholarship, a one-time grant of USD 30,000 to support Indian women pursuing advanced education in STEM fields. The scholarship, launched in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, covers tuition fees for the academic year 2026-27. The scholarship aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM and foster a diverse scientific community.

DET is a leading platform for digital English proficiency testing, which announced the scholarship at a press conference in New Delhi. Severin Hacker, CTO and co-founder of Duolingo along with Carrie Wang, Senior Director, Duolingo English Test announced the program.

The DETermined Scholarship offers USD 30,000 to cover tuition for a master's degree in STEM at a U.S. university accepting DET admissions for the 2026-2027 academic year, aiming to support women innovators and leaders in India's growing STEM education sector. DET is promoting a more inclusive global education ecosystem and breaking gender barriers in STEM. The scholarship supports women innovators and leaders, aiming to build India's global reputation for science, technology, and innovation.

The DET offers affordable and accessible tools for students to test their English proficiency, accepted by over 5,500 programs worldwide. The finalists of the scholarship program will receive mentorship opportunities from experts, and go through a three-step selection process with application, proposal challenges, and a final interview. The program is open to Indian women with a STEM degree, leadership, and innovation commitment.

Applications for the DETermined Scholarship will be opened on the Manthan portal in June 2025, with recipients announced in September 2025. Applicants must have a 120 DET score, a strong academic record, and a STEM innovation proposal.
