The state's police conducted a large crackdown on people involved in child marriage, as declared by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and detained more than 2000 people from various sections of the state.
In response to the state's police campaign to eradicate child marriage The measures would help avoid rape cases in the state, according to Dr. Nomal Momin, deputy speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, who stated that empowering women is an effective approach needed to address the issue of domestic violence.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly praised the efforts of the Assam Police and said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a wonderful attempt to empower women.
He stated that everyone should respect women and should be able to have the same rights, respect, and freedom as males, saying that the action is a fantastic response to those who view women as commodities.
According to Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, a spokesman for the Assam Police, 2170 people have been detained overall in relation to child marriage cases in the state.
"The number of arrests in situations involving child marriage has increased." According to Bhuyan, the police have detained 2,170 people in the state as of this morning, and the number will rise.
Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, reported on February 4 that 4,074 cases had been filed at various police stations throughout the state.
The Assam DGP reported that 2,044 arrests had been made in relation to these cases.
"The chief minister authorised an investigation after learning that underage marriage was widespread in some areas of the state. According to the directive, three years' worth of data on child marriage instances were obtained," Singh continued.
He continued, "There are instances of child marriage in various parts of the state as a result of this, and all the district SPs were instructed to get in touch with respective village defence parties, Gaon Buras, heads of various communities, and notable individuals of various communities.
Singh claims that the areas with the most arrests were Biswanath, Dhubri, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Hojai.
