Dipa Karmakar won the gold medal in the women's vault at the Asian Gymnastics Championships 2024 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, marking the first Indian gymnast to clinch a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships. Her impressive performance, along with her Olympic and FIG World Cup wins, continues to inspire women athletes and gymnasts in India. Dipa has secured bronze in the Asian meet four times previously.
Despite winning gold in Vault with a score of 13.566, she could not qualify for the Paris Olympics as she was placed fourth in the Olympic Qualification Apparatus World Cup Ranking List in Vault, earning 52 points, out of the top two gymnasts who qualified. The 30-year-old gymnast competed in three events in Cairo, Baku, and Doha, qualifying for the final but not finishing on the podium. She finished fifth in Cairo and fourth in the next two meets. Despite her struggles, she is fourth on the standby list for the Olympics.
Dipa mentions, "I went through a lot of troubles, injuries, and surgeries before I could make a comeback. It was a lot of hard work and I couldn't have done all this without the support of my coach and family who have always supported me and stood by my side through thick and thin." She further stated, "I could have executed it a bit better but there were some penalties and the points were deducted."
