India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has set a goal of 25 per cent female representation in the aviation sector by 2025. The DGCA has released a crucial advisory that encourages stakeholders to promote women's representation in various roles, introduce leadership and mentorship programs, challenge stereotypes, and promote work-life balance. This initiative is in line with the vision of gender equality showcased by the Indian Constitution and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a United Nations Agency that issued a circular advocating for equal opportunities in aviation for all Indian operators.
The crucial advisory, in line with the Indian Constitution and ICAO vision, mandates improved representation, leadership, and mentorship programs for women, addressing stereotypes, promoting work-life balance, and promoting diversity, including a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment. The organization is promoting diversity by setting objectives, fostering inclusive HR policies, advocating for diverse work profiles for women, and celebrating female role models to foster a more inclusive workforce culture.
Promoting aviation careers for girls is essential for diversity and unlocking potential. Highlighting successful women as role models, organizing events like 'Fly Like A Girl' and providing STEM-related activities, and organizing 'Girls in Aviation Day' will encourage women.
