Despite Potential, More Girls enrolled in Govt Schools & Boys at Private Schools: Report

The Ministry of Education reports a significant trend in the education system, with more boys in private schools and more girls in government schools. This disparity is attributed to socioeconomic factors and cultural norms favoring boys' education. Despite these challenges, many girls in government schools excel academically and break barriers, showcasing their resilience and potential.
Girls showed up 6 to 7 per cent higher pass percentage this year. In class 10th, girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage was 86.9 per cent whereas boys secured 83 per cent pass percentage. Similarly, in 12th girls secured 86.3 per cent whereas boys secured 78.9 per cent pass percentage respectively. The Education Ministry is advocating for equal opportunities for all students across all school boards, as female students majorly lack opportunities.
The highest number of students studying Science is 78 per cent in Andhra Pradesh Board, followed by 68.4 per cent in Manipur and 65.9 per cent in Tamil Nadu. The Arts stream is most popular among students with 84.6 per cent in Tripura, 82.8 per cent in Gujarat, and 81.1 per cent in Meghalaya.
The report further discusses government initiatives promoting girls' education, including scholarships and free textbooks. Cultural norms also influence enrollment patterns. Educating girls leads to better health outcomes, economic growth, and societal development.
