Collector of Kallakurichi Inaugurates Special Camp for Transgender People

The Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment held a special camp for transgender people in Kallakurichi. The camp was inaugrated by District Collector PN Sridhar, who also served as the chief guest.
"The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has ordered that non-discriminatory treatment of transpersons be ensured in terms of health, education, and job," the Collector remarked during the ceremony. Through different social programmes, the government aims to empower trans people to live a dignified life. In addition, the CM has urged officials to speed up transgender welfare aid programmes. As a result, this special camp was established to give both welfare help and to meet their requests."
“The camp will ease the process of obtaining and making corrections in smart cards, Aadhaar cards and TG cards. The officials at the camp will also receive grievance petitions and applications for transgender pension and free pattas. Special camp petitions shall be forwarded to the concerned authorities for immediate action.
In addition, this special camp was organised by the district administration in order to enable beneficiaries to avail various welfare schemes under one umbrella.Therefore, transpersons should take full advantage of the camp,” said the Collector.
During the ceremony, the Collector congratulated transpeople who had obtained jobs in various government departments and completed their schooling.
He also encouraged young transgender people to go to college and achieve in a variety of vocations, including government service. The Collector also handed out Third Gender ID cards.
This ceremony was attended by District Social Welfare Officer S Deepika, Deputy Collector for Social Security Scheme A Rajamani, District Supply Officer P Shirley Angela, and officials from other departments.
