The Chennamma Squad serves as an ultimate response to Hubballi-Dharwad in order to build confidence among women as well as create self-defence awareness. Involving female police officers, Chennamma Squad holds a unit in district’s every police station while operating in 2 daily shifts i.e., morning and evening. The units shall be visiting all the vulnerable points where a large number of women are present.

The Squad members shall visit schools, colleges, temples, malls, bus stops, and other locations. The locations should fall under jurisdiction of their respective police stations with a consideration of awareness on women's security as well as aiding them in order to register cases of sexual harassment. The leader of the Squad said that the patrolling typically starts at 9 am. She emphasises, “We visit the bus stops and other places where a large number of women congregate. We explain to them the dangers that they are likely to face and the way criminals operate. We suggest college students to learn karate for self- defence.”

While adding to the statement, Chennamma Squad member says, “During patrolling in the twin cities, we advise women to dial 112 for any assistance. We educate them on the dangers of cybercrime, safe modes to follow on social media platforms and precautions to be taken while travelling alone. The women are told not to open their doors without verifying who the visitor is.”
