According to the royal decree that the Cambodian King issued, Chea Serey was named as the Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia in a historic move by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.

Chea is now the first woman in the history of Cambodia to hold the position of governor of the central bank.

On Saturday, the Royal Decree was signed, and it stated that PM Hun Sen will start the appointment on that day. Bankers from all throughout the nation praised Chea's selection, stating that she is well-suited to manage the banking industry in Cambodia.

Acleda Bank Plc's President & Group Managing Director told the press that Chea not only has extensive technological knowledge but also the necessary academic training in banking. Additionally, she has the ability to make contributions and leave a legacy in the central and private banking sectors of Cambodian banking.

She founded the disciplines of banking in our nation and is the mother of digital banking, thus she has two offspring in the banking sector, according to Channy.

"She possesses leadership, knowledge, experience, and abilities. Therefore, the appointment is both wise and strategic. She is excellent because she is a global communicator, elevating our central banks and private banks to the international stage. I think she will take our sectors from where they are now to the next heights, he continued.

Channy further emphasised that Chea is the first woman from Cambodia to hold the position of governor of NBC. "However, the appointment is not only because she is a woman, but also because of her achievement, knowledge, skills, and experience that I already mentioned," added Channy.

In fact, he said, "She already has initiatives, ideas, knowledge, experience, and skills in a full set to lead the sector and they have responded to what we really need such as cross-border payments and transfers, connectivity, and electronic infrastructure at both the national and international levels."
