Centre to Conduct National Workshop to Strengthen Women Panchayat Leaders

A national workshop is being organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj for elected women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions. To be held in New Delhi on March 4, the event will see the launch of 'Sashakt Panchayat-Netri Abhiyan' which aims boost women’s role in governance.

According to an official statement, the aim of the Sashakt Panchayat-Netri Abhiyan initiative is to bolster the ‘capacity-building interventions for elected women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions’ across India. The focus will be on improving women representatives’ leadership skills, decision-making, and highlight the role they play in India’s grassroots governance.

The event will be attended by Rajiv Ranjan Singh, the Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Annpurna Devi, the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, and various senior officials.

The event to be held in a run up to International Women's Day, will see participation from more than 1,200 Panchayat women leaders hailing from all three tiers of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).

Talented women from Panchayats across various states and union territories will also be felicitated for their commendable work in rural local self-governance.

The seminar will launch specific training modules that constitute the potential of specific female representatives, and structuring legal manuals dedicated to address gender-based violence and other harmful practices.

This workshop is in line with PM Modi’s vision to boost India’s women power as shared in the 119th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat'. The initiative also highlights the Indian government's focus on strengthening Gram Panchayats to be ‘safer, inclusive, gender-sensitive, and socially just’.
