BYJU'S Unveils 'LeadHER' Initiative to Educate & Empower Girls from Underprivileged Region

BYJU'S, the world's leading edtech firm, announced the establishment of "LeadHER," a special project for its employees to educate and empower girls from marginalised regions. BYJU employees can participate in this effort by nominating a girl kid from a low-income family who will benefit from BYJU's tech-driven, high-quality, and individualised learning programmes.

BYJU'S ideology is based on providing students with access to high-quality education, and this is instilled in every staff member. While the pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on girls, with studies suggesting that ten million girls in India may drop out of secondary school as a result of COVID-19's economic impact, this campaign allows BYJU's employees to make a positive impact first-hand and further the company's mission to ensure a level playing field for girls everywhere.

Employees have already submitted almost 2,000 nominations just two weeks after the launch.

This programme is also a major step forward for BYJU's flagship social impact initiative, "Education for All." Since its inception in 2020, the initiative has reached 3.4 million youngsters in 26+ states and 340+ districts across the country. By 2025, it hopes to have a beneficial impact on 10 million youngsters. Nearly half of the beneficiaries of BYJU's Education for All initiatives are girls, demonstrating the university's commitment to providing girls with an equal opportunity to learn.

On the occasion of the initiative's debut, BYJU'S Vice President of Social Initiatives, Mansi Kasliwal, stated, "We at BYJU’S believe that every child, irrespective of socio-economic or cultural barriers, deserves an equal opportunity to learn. However, in India, there is a distinct gender gap in education which has further widened due to the pandemic. This initiative is a collective effort from BYJU’S employees and a significant step toward providing girls access to quality education and empowering them to pursue their dreams. At BYJU’S, we firmly believe that when you educate girls, you are safeguarding learning for an entire generation. This is reflected in the fact that girls form nearly 50% of beneficiaries under the BYJU’S Education for All initiative. With the launch of ‘LeadHER’ campaign, we aim to impact the lives of women in underserved communities, and we are confident that it will contribute towards their empowerment and also self-sustenance."

BYJU'S is also commemorating and celebrating the amazing stories of six women-led NGO founders who are working to close the learning gap across the country as part of this campaign. These stories, which have been turned into videos, show how the NGO partners IDEA Foundation, Little Umbrella Foundation, rZamba, EkTara, Nirnayam, and Smiles Foundation have worked tirelessly to encourage girl child education in India.
