The Bundi administration has initiated 'Operation Asmita,' which aims to rescue hundreds of girls/women from the labyrinth of prostitution and pave the path for general growth.
The operation is being undertaken in three rural communities: Ramnagar, Shankarpur, and Mohanpura. According to reports, a segment of the society has a habit of putting their ladies into the flesh trade from a young age, resulting in low literacy rates, a high prevalence of sexually transmitted disease (STD), and harassment.
The movement will be coordinated with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi's Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
Bundi district collector Renu Jaipal remarked, "The administration has adopted a multi-layered approach to deal with the centuries-old evil practice. The first step is a baseline survey in these villages by identifying the families where the practice is prevalent. It will be followed by counselling sessions by experts with the families to cooperate in the campaign,"
The initiative will ultimately admit girls to schools and give them and their families with skill training through a variety of development-oriented activities.
Jaipal said, "Employment opportunities are minimal in the targeted section which has never allowed them to move out of extreme poverty. All necessary facilities and resources will be provided by the district administration in collaboration with various departments”.
Various companies/groups will host placement camps for community members as part of the campaign.
Jaipal added, "Sporting fields will be developed in respective areas and sports facilities and necessary training facilities will be provided. The idea is to provide them ample opportunities for their overall development, sports being one of them.”
In addition, Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be established to provide employment-oriented training for women who want to start their own businesses.
