Bishweshwar Nandi named Indian Women's Gymnastics Team Coach for CWG 2022

Bishweshwar Nandi, theGymnastics coach who guided DipaKarmakar to her fourth-place finish in the 2016 Rio Olympics has been named as the coach for the Indian women’s team coach for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Nandi is replacing RohitJaiswal, who was removed from his position after gymnast ArunaBudda Reddy accused him of inappropriate behavior “I’ve done my biometrics a day before and I am expecting my Visa to arrive by tomorrow. I will join the team by July 29,” Nandi said to PTI from the national camp in New Delhi.

Nandi’s gymnastics career began in 1970. He was trained by R. R. Roy. Later he got the opportunity to train at the NetajiSubhash Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC) under Dalip Singh. Nandi went on to join the BSF however he quit the Border Security Force to become a gymnastics coach in Tripura’s sports department.

Nandi said that he would oversee every member of the squad equally since he has witnessed their progress from close quarters. He mentioned that he has known these athletes for several years now. Although injury-plagued Karmakar has gone off the radar, Nandi's ward ProtisthaSamanta will be in contention in Birmingham.
