Young archer Bhajan Kaur has won gold at the world qualifying tournament held in Antalya and has thus secured India's maiden women's individual recurve archery quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With this win, the 18-year-old archer became the second Indian archer to guarantee a spot at the Paris Games, after Dhiraj Bommadevara qualified in the men's event.
Individual quotas are given to the top eight countries, with each nation being given one quota per gender. India has currently secured individual quotas in both the men's and women's categories. Previously Dhiraj Bommadevara had ensured his spot in the men's category by winning at the Asian qualifying leg. Bhajan Kaur has won the women's individual quota at the final world qualifying tournament.
Bhajan Kaur's win was secured in a commendable 6-2 triumph against Iran’s Mobina Fallah in the gold medal match. The young archer showcased poise and precision as she had a strong beginning with two nines, winning the first set 28-26. In the second set, the competition became intense with both archers shooting 29 each. Bhajan Kaur secured her win by controlling the third set 29-26. Although the fourth set ended at 29-29, Bhajan Kaur's previous performance brought her a 6-2 win. Previously in the tournament, Bhajan Kaur had defeated Alexandra Mirca from Moldova 6-2 in the semi-finals.
