In India, the coronavirus has grown to enormous proportions. On April 27, 2021, the country was hit by an unprecedented wave of Covid-19 cases, with over 350000 cases registered. The increase in Covid-19 cases has also had an effect on the cricketing world.
The Women's T20 Challenge, which was previously scheduled for the Playoffs stage of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), may be postponed or even deferred this year. In reality, a senior Indian Women's cricketer has confirmed that the Indian Women's cricketers are in for some devastating news.
The woman cricketer also said that the players believe this tournament will help them prepare for the England series in June.
“This is devastating news for us. We genuinely thought this edition will give us some very important game time before we take on the English side. All comes crashing down now. Calls have gone unanswered at the moment. That was the least we expected,” said the Woman cricketer as quoted by Cricket.com.
A BCCI official also said that the organization's main priority right now is to ensure that the 2021 edition of the IPL is held in a safe environment. However, the BCCI has reason to be concerned, as some Australian players have withdrawn from the tournament. The BCCI will make an official announcement soon.
Since 2017, the Women's T20 Challenge has been held. During the Playoffs stage of the IPL, three women's teams compete against each other.
The Trailblazers have crowned champions in the 2020 edition of the IPL, which was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The team led by Smriti Mandhana won the tournament by 16 runs over the Supernovas. In the summit clash, Mandhana was named Player of the Match after scoring 68 runs off just 49 deliveries.
