BCCI declines ICC's offer to Host Women's T20 Cricket WC 2024

India has declined the International Cricket Council's (ICC) offer to host the Women's T20 Cricket World Cup in October 2024 due to logistical and scheduling challenges. The decision comes amid political turmoil in Bangladesh, where over 300 people died during protests against a quota system for government jobs. After the grievance situation, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid stepped down from the constituency. India's growing prominence in international cricket, particularly women's cricket, has led to the BCCI's decision.
Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mentioned, "They (ICC) have asked us if we would stage the World Cup. I have categorically said no." He added "We would be in the monsoon season and on top of that we will host the Women's ODI World Cup next year. I don't want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups."
The ICC is closely monitoring Bangladesh's developments on the safety and security of the players along with the domestic cricket board. The Women's T20 Cricket WC has been scheduled to take place from 3 October to 20 October 2024. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Sri Lanka are considered potential hosts and the event is likely to relocate to any of these venues. Meanwhile, England, India, and Australia have issued travel advisories for their citizens since Bangladesh's interim government was established.
