Bangladesh Defeat India by 1-3 at SAFF Women's Championship 2024

India suffered an unfortunate loss of 1-3 to Bangladesh in the finals Group A match of the SAFF Women's Championship 2024. Despite the significant loss, India secured the top runners-up spot in Group A with 3 points. The 7th edition of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championship 2024 was organized in Kathmandu, Nepal from October 17-30, 2024, and witnessed prominent teams including, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, and Bhutan. Team India finished as runners-up in Group A while Nepal topped Group B with 4 points.

The Indian team secured victory over Pakistan 5-2, however, they lost to Bangladesh 1-3. According to the All India Football Federation (AIFF), India initially ensured a spot but the defeat restricted them to runners-up in Group A with 3 points whereas Bangladesh had a draw with Pakistan 1-1 but later ended up with 4 points after the win.

Team Bangladesh was leading 2-0 after half an hour of the match where Afeida Khandaker and Tohura Khatun scored, while Bala Devi reduced the margin with a header. India made several attacks but was unable to score. Bangladesh's goalkeeper Rupna Chakma saved two goals, and substitute Jyoti continued to score. The match was won and lost in the first 30 minutes, with India suffering a setback when midfielder Anju Tamang was replaced due to injury.
