Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken significant steps to empower women in the state by promoting self-employment and welfare schemes. During a review of the Rural and Panchayat Raj departments, CM Reddy instructed officials to focus on encouraging women entrepreneurs under the Cheyutha scheme. He emphasized the importance of providing bank loans and support to enable women to start their self-employment units and achieve economic empowerment.
Under the Cheyutha scheme, the state allocates an impressive Rs 18,750 crore annually to self-help groups, primarily benefiting women's welfare. The scheme's goal is to uplift women in the state and boost their economic status, ultimately leading to a more empowered and self-sufficient female workforce.
As part of this effort, the Chief Minister announced the inclusion of women under the Jagananna Thodu scheme. To ensure financial support, the interest rates on Stree Nidhi bank loans will be reduced to 9%, similar to those of self-help group loans. Furthermore, a zero-interest loan scheme for women will be implemented on August 10, providing additional financial assistance to aspiring women entrepreneurs.
Additionally, CM Reddy highlighted the state's progress under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The state has completed an impressive 18.9 crore man-days of work under the scheme, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 9,600 crore. Out of this, Rs 3,860 crore will be allocated for wages, further supporting the livelihoods of the rural workforce.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of infrastructure development in the state. He directed officials to complete the construction of village and ward secretariats by September, ensuring the efficient delivery of public services to citizens. Drone surveys under the Jagananna Saswatha Bhuhakku - Bhu Raksha initiative have already been completed in 10,943 villages, streamlining land ownership and documentation processes.
Furthermore, CM Reddy urged the identification of suitable locations for Rythu Bharosa Kendras, digital libraries, and village clinics, which will enhance the accessibility of essential services to the rural population. Emphasizing a hygienic and pleasant environment, he called for attention to be given to Jaganna Colonies, promoting better living conditions for residents.
The proactive efforts of the Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, are expected to yield positive outcomes, empowering women and fostering inclusive growth across the state.
