The Andhra Chamber of Commerce has taken a significant step towards promoting gender diversity and empowerment in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Arts (STEAM) by launching the "Women of STEAM Forum." The forum's launch was highlighted by motivational speeches from leading professionals in the field as part of the organization's 95th-anniversary festivities.

The acronym STEAM represents the convergence of various disciplines Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Arts which collectively contribute to innovation, progress, and growth. The Women of STEAM Forum aims to provide a platform to encourage women's active participation and leadership in these critical domains, fostering an environment where their contributions can flourish.

During the launch event, VL Dutt, the President of the Andhra Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the changing landscape of STEAM careers in India. He highlighted the growth in the number of students opting for STEAM education and noted that while in 2016, only around 3.3% of university graduates pursued STEAM fields, that number increased to nearly 32% by 2018. Dutt sees the establishment of the Women of STEAM Forum as a timely initiative that can set an example for the entire industry to follow.

Suchitra Ella, a distinguished individual who has been honored with the Padma Bhushan award and serves as the co-founder and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad, delivered the keynote address. Ella eloquently pointed out how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics have been pivotal in propelling India's progress. She expressed her belief that the true potential of the nation can only be realized when all citizens, regardless of gender, are empowered to contribute. Ella highlighted the impressive achievements of women in fields like information technology and life sciences, showcasing how their dedication has driven India's growth story forward.

Sriramya Yadavalli, Associate Vice President of Policy at Guidance Tamil Nadu, graced the event as the guest of honor. Her presence underlined the significance of the Women of STEAM Forum and its role in fostering collaboration and advancement.

The launch of the Women of STEAM Forum marks a crucial milestone in the journey towards greater gender diversity and inclusivity in the STEAM fields. It aligns with global efforts to create more balanced representation in these domains and recognizes the vital role that women play in driving progress, innovation, and development. As the forum sets the stage for increased engagement, collaboration, and learning, it is poised to become a trailblazing model that not only empowers women but also contributes to the overall growth and prosperity of the industry and the nation as a whole.
