Amway India recently strengthened its Project Nari Shakti with a focus on livelihood in Kolkata as part of its social development efforts.

According to a media statement issued here on Tuesday, the project is an extension of Amway's Nari Shakti Livelihood Enhancement programme, which focuses on motivating, teaching, and equipping poor women with a favourable ecology to assist them pursue their aspirations.

The initiative's goal in the region is to encourage poor women to become entrepreneurs by providing them with the necessary skills and long-term employment opportunities.

Talking about the initiative, Chandra Bhushan Chakraborty, Senior VP – East & West, Amway India, said, “Women empowerment is an important component of global socio-economic development and through the Nari Shakti programme, we, at Amway India, are contributing to the development of a thriving women-led entrepreneurial ecosystem at the grassroots level. While the initiative and upskilling projects help women achieve financial independence, the students have also become an inspiration to many others in the community”.

Amway's Nari Shakti Project has impacted the lives of over 1,100 women and over 25,000 indirect beneficiaries by providing them with training in fashion design, beauty, and nutrition, as well as business skills.

Following the successful conclusion of the first part of the program, which began in Kolkata last year, the company encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs by providing sewing machines and startup kits to those who wanted to establish their own businesses.

Amway will continue to nurture this entrepreneurial spirit through tailored programmes that include skill development in fashion designing/tailoring and beauty, as well as entrepreneurship basics, other soft skills, and a module on the importance of nutrition and wellness, building on the ongoing project in various parts of the country.

The initiative intends to assist these underprivileged women in becoming financially self-sufficient.

Bidisha Ghosh Biswas, Secretary, Mukti Rehabilitation Centre, said, “We truly value the partnership with Amway which is giving these underprivileged women the much-needed platform to become self-independent and financially sound. We, at Mukti Rehabilitation Centre are thankful to Amway for not only limiting their support to skill development but also helping them take their first steps towards entrepreneurship”.

Over the years, Amway India has invested in upskilling women through a variety of online and offline training and workshops. With the Nari Shakti programme, the organisation hopes to continue nurturing women by imparting business skills and offering a community of mentors to help and guide them along the way.
