AMUAAQ Conducts 'Women Empowerment & Zaiqa-e-Aligarh 2023'

Zaiqa -e- Aligarh 2023, the annual flagship event hosted by The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) was organized in Doha recently. The AMUAAQ which is an associate organization (AO) of ICBF under the aegis of the Embassy of India-Qatar, conducted the event at the indoor venue of Crown Plaza, AL Manar Ball Room in Doha.
Organized by the ladies’ wing of AMUAAQ the event was attended by several dignitaries which included India’s new ambassador to Qatar, His Excellency Vipul, and his wife, Kirti Chhokar. The Executive Committee and members of AMU Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) welcome His Excellency who has newly joined as the Ambassador of India to the State of Qatar and his wife.
The event threw light on the challenges of gender inequality in society, women’s mental health, and the menace of child abuse through creative means such as skits, poems, and PowerPoint presentations.
A cookery competition was the hallmark event of the program. It saw participants present their best cuisines both traditional and modern. Renowned businesswoman Zainab Abbas was the chief judge. She was accompanied by two renowned chefs Ranjan Kumar and Leroy Azavedo from Marriot Hotel.
Vice president (ladies wing) of AMUAAQ and President of AMU Alumni Qatar Toastmasters Dr. Ashna Nusrat hosted the stage program. Dr Nadeem Jilani, President of AMUAAQ commended the efforts put in by the ladies' wing in his speech. He also addressed the distressful situation in Gaza and Palestine and prayed for a peaceful future. The event’s Chief Guest, Shri Vipul lauded the organisers for highlighting pertinent issues. He also highlighted how the Indian Govt’s program “Beti Parhao Beti Bachao” (Educate the Girl Child, Save the Girl Child) is keeping the issue of women's empowerment at the forefront of its policies.
The event was also attended by various other dignitaries including a representative of the Russian Embassy Captain Mavel Burmistrov, Asha Shiju (Guest of Honour), and a host of other special guests.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ahmad said, “It was a really fun and thoughtful event, where we learned Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries.”
