Amol Muzumdar will be appointed as the new coach of the Indian Women's Cricket Team. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) conducted interviews with some of the shortlisted candidates on Monday in Mumbai where Amol was one of the best candidates who impressed the committee during the interview sessions.
The 90-minute presentation that Amol gave during the interview was the most impressive part for the committee which comprised Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik.
The CAC also conducted interviews with former Durham head coach Jon Lewis and former India head coach Tushar Arothe, who resigned from the position in 2018.
The Indian Women's Cricket Team is all set to get a new coach after several months as last year in December coach Ramesh Pawar was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NAC).
As per a BCCI official, Amol was quite clear about his objectives for the women's team which impressed CAC the most and he will most probably get selected as the head coach.
Amol has served as the head coach of the Mumbai Ranji team and also held positions with the South African National Team and IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.
Beginning on July 9, Amol's first event as a head coach will be the tour of Bangladesh. In Mirpur, India will play a series of six matches including ODIs and T20s which will be led by the Indian Women's National Cricket Team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur.
The Indian women's team is yet to win a world championship title after several consecutive losses.
Amol is one of the gems of domestic cricket as he secured 11,167 runs in first-class cricket for Mumbai and Assam but was unable to earn a position for India. The Mumbai team reached to the Ranji trophy final last year and later won the Vijay Hazare trophy under his coaching.
