The BCCI has appointed Amol Mazumdar as the head coach of the Indian Women's team, ending a long wait. Amol was shortlisted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) in June and replaced Ramesh Powar, who was removed from the respective post in December last year as BCCI's 'internal restructuring.'
The Indian women's team's head coach position has been vacant for nearly a year, with interim appointments by Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Nooshin Al Khadeer.
Amol Mazumdar a Mumbai Ranji Trophy-winning captain, will captain Mumbai in December's Tests against England and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in December. He has scored over 11,000 First-class runs in 171 matches which includes 30 centuries during his 21 years of cricket career.
According to sources, India will play against England in a Test from 14 to 17 December and Australia in a day/night pink ball Test from 21 to 24 December at the iconic stadium. BCCI and Cricket Australia conducted a stadium tour, with England playing three ODIs before the Test and Australia playing three ODIs and T20Is post-Test in Mumbai.
Indian Women's Cricket team Head Coach, Amol Muzumdar, has been appointed for a two-year term. He expressed his gratitude to CAC and BCCI for their trust and aims to provide talented players with proper preparation and guidance for the two upcoming World Cups. He continues, the team, coaching, and support staff will work diligently to maximize success.
Amol is a former batting coach with Rajasthan Royals, an IPL franchise and South African team when they visited India in 2019. He led Mumbai to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and reached the finals of the Ranji Trophy, also worked at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
