Amazon India announced the opening of the region's first all-female delivery facility in Mizoram, which would be run by its Delivery Service Partner (DSP). The recently opened station is located near Champhai, not far from the border between India and Myanmar. The station is run by Christina Rindiki, a businesswoman who used Amazon's DSP programme to launch a last-mile delivery business named Servico. Customers in nearby communities like Kanan, Kahrawt, Venglai, Vengthlang, Vengsang, and Bethel, among others, would benefit from the delivery of Amazon deliveries via this station.
In addition to allowing Amazon India to expand its client base even further, the opening of this extra delivery station in the region's north-east opens up new career prospects for Delivery Service Partners and the colleagues they hire.
Opportunities for station managers, process workers, and delivery colleagues will be among these opportunities. The company has put in place a number of measures to ensure that women are safe at work, including raising awareness of health and safety issues, developing various feedback mechanisms, and setting up a dedicated helpline that employees can call for any support or assistance they may need throughout the working day.
According to a news release, Amazon India's initiatives to enhance opportunities for women in the logistics sector and strengthen its Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DE&I) commitment are strengthened with the establishment of this all-women delivery station. Five all-female delivery stations, one each in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as two in Kerala, are already in operation for the company and are run by partners.
Delivery stations serve as the beginning point for Amazon's "last-mile delivery," which involves gathering ordered goods from fulfilment and sortation facilities and delivering them to consumers' doorsteps nearby. Over the years, Amazon has made investments to strengthen its position in Northeast India. As a result, the country now has close to 70 Amazon-owned and Partner Delivery Stations, ensuring direct delivery presence in about 400 pin codes. Over 97% of the country's serviceable pin codes with direct delivery availability can now receive their orders from Amazon India within two days of placing an order. This means that Amazon India now delivers to 100% of the country's serviceable pin codes.
Amazon India partners with small and mid-sized companies (SMBs) in the country's rural areas as part of the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) programme to deliver items to Amazon customers. This programme is the beginning of many partners' entrepreneurial careers. They use their familiarity with the neighbourhood and the technological assistance provided by Amazon India to easily fulfil delivery commitments to clients.
