Alstom India, a leading player in the rail mobility and infrastructure industry, has announced its highest-ever intake of engineers for its young engineering graduate programme (YEGP) in 2023. The program will onboard 700 engineers, with an impressive 58% of them being women. This milestone emphasizes Alstom's commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusivity in the engineering field.
YEGP has been a vital component of Alstom India's hiring strategy since 2015, aimed at nurturing the talent of young engineers to meet the evolving needs of the Indian and global markets. The 14-day program offers a comprehensive and engaging experience, allowing graduates to gain a deeper understanding of Alstom's business, operations, and functions. They will have the opportunity to interact closely with the company's leadership team, fostering mentorship and knowledge sharing.
The selected candidates will join as graduate engineer trainees, with post-graduate trainees also included in the program. They will undergo structured induction, technical and functional training, and on-the-job training, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for their roles. These roles span various areas, including application engineering, train control engineering, train design engineering, testing and commissioning engineering, and more. The engineers will be stationed across Alstom's six manufacturing establishments and four engineering centres, catering to both domestic and international demands.
Vinod Varghese, Human Resources Director India at Alstom, expressed his enthusiasm for the overwhelming response to the program, stating, "In the rapidly growing rail mobility and infrastructure industry, we are delighted to be the employer of choice for a record number of young engineering graduates this year." He also emphasized the significance of this workforce in realizing the Make In India vision, as Alstom's products and solutions developed in India are deployed globally.
Alstom's commitment to diversity and excellence is further exemplified by its recent certification as a top employer in the mobility sector in India for the third consecutive year. This recognition underscores the company's dedication to providing a conducive and inclusive work environment that empowers employees to thrive and contribute to innovative solutions in the mobility industry.
The YEGP hiring process involved campus recruitment from 54 universities across 26 states in India, ensuring a broad representation of engineering disciplines. Alstom recognizes that embracing diversity in skill sets and perspectives enhances creativity, innovation, and overall business success.
With its remarkable intake of women engineers through the YEGP, Alstom India sets a positive example for the industry by championing gender equality and women's participation in the engineering sector. By nurturing the talents of these young engineers, Alstom contributes to building a future-ready and diverse workforce that will play a pivotal role in shaping the rail mobility and infrastructure landscape in India and beyond.
