Sixteen Haryana police officers set off on a 1,194-kilometer bicycle tour to raise awareness about women's safety. The demonstration, dubbed 'Jagriti Yatra,' will span 25 days and cover 23 police districts across the state.

The all-women squad will interact with girls and women, including at schools and colleges, to spread awareness about various crimes against women, ways to prevent these crimes, and the roles of various state agencies, said director general of police (DGP) PK Agrawal, who kicked off the journey on Monday.

The 16 policewomen cyclists, led by assistant commissioner of police (ACP, Panchkula) Mamta Sodha, will travel a distance of 1,194 miles, including rural and urban locations, and organise social awareness activities to increase their reach.

The yatra will end on December 10 with a closing ceremony at Panchkula police headquarters, according to a press statement.

With the phrase 'Jagruk Naari, Shakti Humari,' the expedition's goal is to educate people about women's rights and the resources available to them.

According to Haryana DGP PK Agrawal, providing protection to women, children, and the aged is one of the state police's top objectives.  “In some areas of Haryana, women still hesitate to report a crime,” the DGP said.

AS Chawla, ADGP (telecom & IT), Navdeep Singh Virk, Kala Ramachandran, principal secretary (Haryana transport)-cum-ADGP (SVB), IGP (modernisation) Amitabh Singh Dhillon, IGP (women safety cell) Bharti Arora, AIG (welfare) Hamid Akhtar, and other officers were present.
