Vice-Chancellor B.K. Tulasimala of the Karnataka State Akka Mahadevi Women's University in Vijayapura has stated that the university will expand its footprint across the state by establishing regional centres, extension centres, and post-graduate centres.
On Tuesday, she spoke at the university's 12th convocation in Vijayapura. “We are focussing on providing higher education to girls across the State, especially in rural areas. Now that our scope has expanded to the whole State, we will try to reach out to all corners of the State,” she said. The State Government has sanctioned 4 acres of land at Addiganahalli near Bengaluru. The university proposes to establish a regional centre there and run a KAS-cum-IAS coaching centre for aspiring women graduates.
The university will open a post-graduate centre in Udutadi village, the birthplace of 12th-century saint Akka Mahadevi, after whom the university is named. In the community, the government has approved roughly 10 acres of property. The responsible Member of Parliament has pledged to assist the university in the development of various buildings, dorms, and other infrastructure essential for the institution to begin various Skill Development programmes and courses at the Udutadi PG Centre. Buildings in the university's post-graduate centres in Mandya and Sindhanur have been finished. At these locations, all offices have been relocated to new structures. It has been decided to open an Extension Centre of the university in Bidar district, she said.
Thawarchand Gehlot, the university's governor and chancellor, presented the honours and diplomas. On Tuesday, 11,208 students received graduate, post-graduate, and post-graduate diplomas from the institution. 48 students obtained their Ph.Ds, 19 students received their M.Phils, and 76 students were awarded prizes, including 65 gold medals and 11 cash prizes. Only a few people earned degrees in person due to COVID-19 regulations. Three achievers, writer Janaki Srinivasmurthy (aka Vaidehi), singer Suma Sudheendra, and entrepreneur Kalpana Saroj, received honorary doctorates from the Governor.
