The All-India Mahila Congress (AIMC) is set to launch a nationwide campaign from Delhi demanding the sudden implementation of the women's reservation law that seeks to reserve 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women, financial independence for women, and measures to ensure their safety and security. The campaign will involve rallies, public meetings, and campaigns across various states to pressure the government to prioritize the Women's Reservation Bill. The initiative aims to offer monthly cash and steps to ensure security for women.
Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba announced the campaign to address women's rights and security in India. The campaign will be launched at the Jantar Mantar, Delhi, and will reach every state, district, city, and village until the demand for women's rights and security is met. Ms. Alka urged immediate implementation of the women's reservation law passed by the Modi government before the 2024 elections that have been delayed, allowing women in Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra to receive the benefits.
Ms. Alka further mentioned that the Mahalakshmi Scheme, promised by Congress, would provide Rs 1 lakh annual cash assistance to one woman in every poor family. The scheme aims to address rising crimes against women, with 20,000 cases reported in Rajasthan in the last six months. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and K.C. Venugopal have assured raising these issues.
