As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Granules India Limited partnered with AIG Hospitals to conduct a breast health checkup and awareness camp for women police personnel at the Telangana State Police Headquarters.

The program, under Granules India's 'Breast Health Express' initiative, was focused on encouraging early detection and awareness of breast cancer among female police officers. The camp provided breast health checks and educational talks to 100 women police officers.

Dr. Jitendra, IPS, Telangana State Director General of Police, highlighted, "Women in challenging careers like law enforcement tend to prioritize duty over personal health, resulting in delayed screening.” Early detection considerably enhances treatment success and recovery. I would very strongly urge each woman above 40 to undergo a breast cancer check-up once every year or at least every two years." He also appreciated the initiative taken by Granules India and AIG Hospitals in association, terming it a major step in the direction of providing preventive healthcare to women officers that they rightfully deserve.

Since its inauguration in September 2024, the Breast Health Express mobile van has held 18 camps, screening more than 1,000 women and educating more than 2,000 people through outreach. The initiative is a collaboration of medical assistance and mobile facilities by Granules India Ltd, AIG Hospitals, Asian Medical Foundation, and UC Breast Foundation. With mammography and ultrasound facilities, the mobile van also provides health tests like hemoglobin and blood pressure checks.

Dr. Pragnya Chigurupati, Breast Oncologist at AIG Hospitals and Founder of UC Breast Foundation, pointed out, "India, particularly Telangana, is witnessing a worrying rise in breast cancer cases. The 'Breast Health Express' program will take early detection to women's doorsteps with mammogram and ultrasound scanning." She further added that with the UC Breast Foundation, financial support would be given to women requiring treatment for breast problems.

Uma Chigurupati, Executive Director of Granules India, has played a key role in spearheading the company's CSR efforts. At her helm, Granules India continues to focus on healthcare initiatives that increase access to preventive care for women in underprivileged communities.
