Asha Malviya, a 24-year-old mountaineer and athlete from Madhya Pradesh, is on a quest to prove that women are safe in India to the rest of the world. Asha, who left on her own cycling tour on November 1, arrived in Thiruvananthapuram. To spread the word about the safety and empowerment of women around the world, she plans to travel 20,000 kilometres.
“Many people in foreign countries believe that India is unsafe for women. So far, I have covered 6,700km by travelling Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. Kerala is the sixth state I am crossed and the response and experience I got from all the places till now are overwhelming,” stated Asha, who will begin her journey to Tamil Nadu tomorrow.
She met the governor, the transport minister, and the chief minister on Monday.
The lone traveller claimed that, notwithstanding a negative encounter she experienced in Kochi, Kerala had been a memorable destination. "She declined my request to meet the Ernakulam collector. The collector went without providing me time even though I waited, recalls Asha, who undertook this expedition with assistance from the Madhya Pradesh tourism office. Asha has received the GPS-equipped hybrid cycle Rom-2 and cycle kit from the Madhya Pradesh government.
Asha is a mountaineer who has scaled Tenzing Khan (19,545 feet) and Bisi Rai (20,500 feet), which are located on the border of Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. She is listed in the National Book of Records and OMG Book of Records.
Asha faced several challenges in her life after losing her father when she was just three years old.
In August 2023, when my solo adventure comes to an end in Delhi, I hope to meet our President and Prime Minister, adds Asha. Asha is preparing to travel alone by bicycle to a different nation after the journey is over.
