Nine women from each panchayat in Chamba region, Uttarakhand would be trained in weaving. Weaving machines would be installed in each panchayat to provide greater work opportunities for women.
Dr Hans Raj, the Deputy Speaker, remarked this recently at an event hosted by the Department of Women and Child Development at the Maa Chamunda temple complex in Dehgran, Churah district of Chamba.
Dr. Raj said, “Under the able leadership of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, the honorarium of ASHA workers and anganwadi workers had been almost doubled during the tenure of the government.”
To increase women's livelihood prospects, he urged self-help groups (SHGs) to provide training to local produce centres in addition to agricultural horticulture.
The state government has reserved 50% seats for women at all levels in panchayati raj institutions, according to the Deputy Speaker, in order to encourage women empowerment.
He added, “Women have an important contribution to advance the society and it is very important for women to be educated in the family as she nurtures her children”.
He presented awards and keepsakes to women who had made significant contributions to politics, culture, education, sports, and the fight against the pandemic. He also presented a souvenir to his mother, Suto Devi.
