The NASSCOM Foundation and LEAD at Krea University's report on "Digital Dividends: Understanding the Use of Social Commerce by Women Entrepreneurs in Rural India" shows that 80 per cent of rural women entrepreneurs successfully use social commerce, despite digital literacy gaps. However, limited familiarity and inconsistent network availability pose challenges. The study based on a survey of 792 women entrepreneurs from 24 districts in India explores the challenges and opportunities for Rural Women Entrepreneurs (RWEs) in adopting digital tools and social commerce.
The report mentions that 71 per cent of women find social commerce crucial for their business growth, and 83.2 per cent use social media to maintain their customer relations in a frequent manner. The report stated the challenges faced by these rural women entrepreneurs which shows 23 per cent share limited digital familiarity and 23.6 per cent inconsistent network availability. 79.5 per cent of women own personal smartphones whereas 20.5 per cent still use their family members' smartphones. Women are less aware of government schemes for digital integration, which is 34.5 per cent.
The report emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to support rural women-led entrepreneurs (RWEs), including digital upskilling programs, accessible training centers, improved financial resources, and targeted vocational training promoting sustainable growth.
