56.8 Percent women candidates clears NEET-UG 2021 exam

According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), a total of 8,70,074 students passed the NEET-UG 2021 exam for admission to undergraduate medical programmes, with women accounting for 56.8% of those who passed.

Mrinal Kutteri (Telangana), Tanmay Gupta (Delhi), and Karthika G Nair (Maharashtra) were the top three students, each receiving 720 points.

Two women are among the top 20 contenders, who hail from 11 states and one U.S. territory.

NEET (UG) senior director Dr Sadhana Parashar said in a statement that 8,70,074 students out of 15,44,275 passed the exam on September 12. This is an increase over last year, when 13,66,945 people attempted the exam and 7,71,500 passed.

Women made up 55.46 percent of eligible candidates last year.

Three applicants from Uttar Pradesh are among the top-20 candidates this year, with two each from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Delhi. The exam was held in 13 languages in 3,858 locations around the world, including Kuwait and Dubai. There were a total of 883 foreign candidates who qualified.

In comparison to last year's 12.8 percent, 46.59 percent, and 4.38 percent, the qualifying applicants come from a Scheduled Caste (SC) background, 45.6 percent from an OBC background, and 4.61 percent from ST background.

This year's cut-off score in the general category is 138, compared to 147 in 2020. The cut-off for ST, SC, and OBC is 108, compared to 113 last year.

According to the NTA announcement, the DGHS would conduct counselling for 15% all-India quota seats, deemed institutions, central universities, and BHU and AMU seats, among other things.

"The details and schedule of counselling will be available on websites of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Directorates of States,” it said.

In case of state quota seats, and other seats under the ambit of states, candidates “may apply to their domicile states and merit list as per State rules...The counselling for Private Medical Colleges will also be conducted by.. State Counselling Authority,” it said.
