The typical Indian mentality has always demanded women to manage the household and their family sacrificing their dream and career. However, some strong-willed women have transformed their lives grabbing their opportunities for education, speech, and more, and have travelled a long way. Let us meet five such women leaders to make it big in 2020.
Aarthi Subramanian, Chief Digital Officer, Tata Group
Aarthi Subramanian serves as the Chief Digital Officer at Tata Sons and directly reports to the Group Executive Chairman. She possesses a career graph spanning over 28 years of experience in the global technology sector. Aarthi kick-started her career with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and served in diverse roles in India, Canada, the US, and Sweden, and gained rich experience in consulting engagements and management of large-scale technology programs as well as operations. Working at TCS, Aarthi held Executive Director and Global Head of Delivery Excellence, Governance & Compliance. She was responsible for driving excellence in service delivery, governance of key programs & initiatives as well as enterprise-wide compliance. Before this role, Aarthi was the head of Delivery for seven years with the TCS Retail & CPG Business unit and held the responsibility for several strategic accounts and major clients.
Debjani Ghosh, President, NASSCOM
Debjani Ghosh holds the position of president of the National Association of Software and Services Companies in April three decades after its formation. A post-two-decade career at the U.S. chipmaker recently became the managing director for South Asia, Debjani has been leading the trade body that signifies the global leaders in software outsourcing from Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. to Infosys. She has also pledged to advocate for women in the workplace in the male-dominant area. Her appointment underscores how the local industry is waking up to a gender imbalance that plagues the global technology sector.
Geetha Manjunath, Co-Founder and CEO, Niramai Health Analytix
Dr. Geetha Manjunath is the Founder, CEO and CTO of NIRAMAI. She possesses more than 25 years of experience in IT research and has led many innovative projects in Healthcare and Transportation, especially catering to Emerging Market needs. Until the end of 2016, she served as a Lab Director heading Data Analytics Research in Xerox India. Before that, she was a Principal Research Scientist at Hewlett Packard Laboratories for 17 years, and a member of the C-DAC team which built the first commercial supercomputer from India. She has a PhD in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Science and management education from Kellogg’s School of Management Chicago. Geetha has won many international and national recognition for her innovations and entrapreneural work. She was awarded the Computer Society of India Gold Medal in 1991 and TR Shamanna State Award from Karnataka in 1989.
Ipsita Dasgupta, Country Manager, Apple Services in India
Ipsita Dasgupta serves as the country manager of Apple, India and head its streaming services that include App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, and the recently revamped Apple TV+. She is the former head of strategy and new ventures at India’s largest OTT platform Hotstar and she has succeeded Khushboo Ponwar who now heads Apple in the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. With an MBA from Harvard Business School, Ipsita brings more than two decades of experience which includes working at corporates like Cisco, IBM, and GE.Ashish Chowdhary, Managing Director of Apple India, will continue to head sales and devices operations in the country
Monika Shergill , Vice President, Content, Netflix India
Monika Shergill heads the international original series division in Netflix, India. Monika previously served as an executive vice-president and head-content at Viacom18 Digital Ventures. The head of series, international originals is an important role for Netflix India. Netflix's focus is to make the content offering in India good enough for more and more Indians to find it of value. That includes creating mainstream original series and movies in India, with top quality, big-budget licensed content as well as offering the service the best streaming experience for its members.
