A historic endeavor aimed to protect the country's democratic traditions and to ensure the integrity of free, fair, and peaceful elections has been guaranteed by organizing an event in a joint effort led by Assam's Chief Electoral Officer and the Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission. On April 10, 2024, over 40 lakh women members from the Self-Help Groups in Assam pledged their commitment to the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024 driving a record-based achievement and registering to the 'India Book of Records.'
The Election Commission of India's flagship program, Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) had a great impact during this event in order to accomplish this remarkable feat. Their effort was aimed to improve both the quantity and quality of voting participation and not just restrict it to mere numbers.
The participants of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs), referred to as "Sarathi Baideo," demonstrated their active engagement with the community during the event. These members arranged assistance desks at several government offices, working closely with the district election offices and administration. The India Book of Records adjudicator, Narvijay Yadav, officially recognized and announced the successful completion of the pledge-taking event, presenting a certificate of achievement to Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Goel.
