3,092 Females Trained through Sports Authority of India's Sports Promotion Program

Anurag Singh Thakur, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports informed the Rajya Sabha today that a total of 3,092 women are receiving training through Sports Authority of India's Sports Promotion Program.
Around 1,239 female athletes have been trained under the Khelo India Scheme, said Mr. Anurag Thakur. He added that the Target Olympic Podium Scheme covers 85 elite female athletes across a variety of sports disciplines.
The minister stated that there is a specific element of Sports for Women under the Khelo India scheme that emphasizes Sports disciplines where women participate less frequently. According to Mr. Anurag, the Khelo India women's leagues are being organized under this section. 14 different Sports competitions have already been held all over the nation.
The Khelo India initiative is a Sports development program started by the Indian government to promote and help local talent and Sports. The initiative aims to identify and develop young talent for a variety of Sports, as well as promote sports at the grassroots levels.
