The HSBC Hurun Global Indians List for 2024 reveals a significant gender gap among Indian-origin CEOs, with only 12 out of 200 companies on the list being women-led. Out of the 226 CEOs, only 12 are women, making up almost 6 per cent of the total.
Chanel's Leena Nair was named as the most influential Indian-origin figure. Leena is a British business executive who has been appointed as Chanel's Global CEO, leading to a 16 per cent YoY revenue growth to $19.7 billion in 2023.
The list features 12 influential Indian women in top leadership positions including Jayshree V. Ullal, Chairperson and CEO of Arista Networks with a value of $128 billion; Reshma Kewalramani, CEO and President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals with a value at $121 billion; Leena Nair, Global CEO, Chanel with a value of $80 billion; Yamini Rangan, CEO, HubSpot with a value of $36 billion; Shriti Vadera, Chairperson of Prudential Plc with a valuation of $23 billion; Revathi Advaithi, CEO of Flex, with a value of $17 billion; Renuka Jagtiani, Chairperson and CEO of Landmark Group with a value of $10 billion; Neha Narkhede, Co-founder of Confluent with a company value of $9.8 billion; Chandra Dhandapani, CEO of Magnit; and Anu Sudarsan, Co-founder of Starburst.
There is a significant need to increase the representation of Indian women among Indian-origin CEOs worldwide. Companies should implement strategies that can help create an environment that nurtures female talent, enabling more Indian women to reach top executive positions.
Additionally, the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 showcases the significant contributions of Indian-origin leaders in major organizations. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, leads the list, followed by Sundar Pichai of Google and Neal Mohan of YouTube. The list, which includes 226 individuals with a total valuation of $10 trillion, highlights the significant role of the Indian diaspora in shaping global economic outlooks.
