10th National Conference of Women in Police Inaugurated By Union Minister in Shimla

Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State for Home inaugurated the 10th National Conference of Women in Police (NCWP) in Shimla on Sunday. The event is a two day conference and will see participation from 160 delegates. Speaking at the momentous occasion he said that women empowerment plays a significant role in bringing change in the society. Nityanand highlighted that the percentage of women in the police and the central armed police force (CAPF) increased by 2-3 times in the past eight years.

He paid homage to the contribution of women in the police and especially mentioned the ones in the border areas. Nityanand cited examples of women working on the Bangladesh border and at a busy police station in West Bengal and said, “If I have to choose between men and women police personnel, I will choose the women as they are more empathetic in investigation”.

He further went on to say, “Women are the identity and honour of our nation.”

Nityanand also spoke how increasing the number of women personnel in the police would work towards changing the mindset of general public. It would also make the environment for working women safer.

Speaking at the event BalajeeSrivastav, DG, Bureau of Police Research and Development, said President Droupadi Murmu, who was the Governor of Jharkhand during the ninth national conference. She had then remarked that the day was not far when women would surpass men in the police.

At the event deliberations will be held on gender-friendly policing, influence of women in the police, crime against women, success of women police stations at the grassroots level, building resilience for future challenges, leadership qualities and abilities of women besides sharing experiences of women as mothers in the police.
