  • Out of 140 applications, 10 Young Women have been Selected for Humanitarian Trip to India
  • The trip is part of a Partnership between Urdd Gobaith Cymru and HFC Kolkata
  • Volunteers to work for Vulnerable Children and Women

Ten young women Welsh volunteers are set to embark on a humanitarian trip to India in February as part of a partnership between Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Wales' largest youth organization, and Her Future Coalition (HFC) Kolkata. The humanitarian trip has been funded by the Welsh Government to boost business and strengthen social and cultural ties between India and Wales.

The volunteers will work with vulnerable children, young people, and at-risk women, including survivors of trafficking and gender-based violence. They will participate in workshops, share Welsh culture, and run fun activities in schools, including Ek Tara Middle School, to educate girls from Kolkata's largest slum community who are at risk of child labor, child marriage, and domestic violence.

Welsh volunteers are fundraising over £5,000 to support HFC's education efforts and strengthen the relationship between Wales and India during Wales in India 2024.

The Urdd and Christian Aid have been promoting awareness and education about India's youth through their 'Croeso Calcutta' campaign, which has led to an exchange program with young women in Kolkata's red-light district. After almost 20 years, the Urdd's members will revisit the red-light area of Kolkata, Kidderpore, during this expedition.
