Can you tell us about your expertise as a nursing administrator?
As a creative nurse administrator, my mission is to tie the knot between three important aspects. The first one is: transforming Nobel nurses into reasonably skilled nurses in a shorter duration by imparting skills of patient care in a very unique style. The next aspect is about providing integrated nursing care of global standards through the pool of Nobel nurses and benchmarking the same so that we can compete with other corporates in India or globally. The final aspect is to enable the community to choose our Nobel hospital as the most trusted and advanced healthcare destination. To put it in simple words, my role is to Transform Novice Nursing Team to empower Noble Nightingale through further empowering and making the Nobel Hospitals & Research Centre the best place for both employees and patients.
What other functions and duties do you have at Noble Hospital as the Chief Nursing Officer?
I have the opportunity to be in the role of the chief nursing officer as well as quality manager. It has been an exciting journey to be in the C-suite leadership – who believes in the standards of excellence. Besides the usual role of the chief nursing officer, I believe in creating leaders by unlocking the potential of my intuition. Directing and managing efficiently and effectively – one third pool of the workforce of an integrated hospital, and ensuring the highest standard of Safe quality services to All our patients, has been an exciting journey with the great support of Management and Clinicians.
Creating an empowered flexible team based on knowledge, and skill and delegating responsibilities, Instilling a sense of accountability, and believing in their potential, enabled me to create more and more powerful leaders in our team. I motivate and inspire my team members to build trust by being transparent and encourage them to create a Snowball effect down the lane. I feel those are the essence of transformational leadership. I DO NOT GIVE UP on achieving the Goals, irrespective of the difficulty level of the situation. Adopted strategies are modified and strengthened in every difficult situation till the desired goal is achieved. So being a quality manager and a nursing head, my mission is aligned with the organization's vision of delivering the highest standards of safe quality services to all our patients.
What are your thoughts on the Indian healthcare system also mention some of the steps to strengthen the entire nursing landscape in the country.
Ever since I’m back to the US in 2010, I’ve been trying to strengthen the Nursing image in India based on my prior international exposure to Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital, Boston, US. I strongly believe that nurses are the most important pillar of Health Care and their work efficiency directly influences the outcome of the patient and thereby the image of an organization. So strengthening and retaining the qualified trainees and experienced nursing pool would be the primary goal and concern in our country, which we are lacking for various reasons.
Nursing Education curriculum and strategies shall be strengthened further. The course curriculum shall be inclusive of the needs of the population whom we are serving and the gaps identified by the Nursing leaders of various healthcare organizations. Nursing being a vocational course, shall focus not only on knowledge acquisition but also on skill development. The primary reason for selecting Nursing as a profession is the job placement in the international market is much higher and thereby the financial stability.
“My mission is aligned with the organization's vision of delivering the highest standards of safe quality services to all our patients”
What would be your advice to the younger generation aspiring to build their career in nursing?
My advice to my young generation would be, “Be positive, Be focused, Be empathetic and unlock the potentials you have with utmost honesty. Set a challenge for yourself, establish a benchmark for yourself, and become a better professional than you were yesterday. The goal of delivering the highest standard of safe patient care shall be the only motto of being a Patient advocate in the true sense. Identify the needs of the patients before the patient can verbalize them being a proactive and vigilant nurse. You shall have the burning desire to learn something new every day".
