Svetlana Ryabkova, Senior Legal Counsel at Finvizier Consultancies moved to Dubai in 2013, ready to embrace a new challenge despite limited experience in Russia. 

Starting as a legal assistant in a logistics firm, Svetlana quickly adapted to the demands of her new environment. Working long hours and honing her skills in contract drafting and legal consulting, she moved on to a role as an in-house counsel at a consulting company, where she focused on corporate governance and policy restructuring.

Her breakthrough came in 2022 when she joined Finvizier Consultancies as Head of Legal and Compliance, advising on regulatory compliance, risk management, and legal documentation. This experience gave her the confidence to start her venture, Oryx Legal Consultancy, in 2023, where she now serves as Founder and CEO. Through her work, she continues to make an impact in the legal and compliance sectors, empowering businesses to navigate complex legal landscapes with confidence.

Could you tell us about your brainchild, Oryx Legal, and its various offerings

We are a boutique UAE law firm that provides comprehensive legal services across the UAE and the broader Middle East. We specialize in supporting medium-sized businesses, international trading, construction, and manufacturing companies operating in the Gulf region. Our expertise spans corporate governance, company law, business establishment, and legal document review.

What sets us apart is our tailored approach to our clients which is enabled by our deep understanding of the region’s dynamic legal landscape. We offer cost-effective, high-quality legal solutions, including litigation, advisory, and consulting, with specialized services for Russian-speaking clients.

Finvizier Consultancies is a boutique advisory firm based in Dubai, specializing in rating advisory, ESG consulting, and financial strategy across the Middle East, Central Asia, and other emerging markets. We bring together a multidisciplinary network of experts from top consulting firms, rating agencies, and investment banks, allowing us to deliver tailored, project-based solutions that drive meaningful impact.

Our core services include credit rating advisory, where we help companies improve their financial profile to enhance their creditworthiness and access to funding. Our ESG advisory services support businesses in integrating sustainability while ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, we offer climate consulting to help organizations identify risks and develop long-term climate strategies, alongside financial modeling to support data-driven decision-making.

Describe your key roles and responsibilities as the Senior Legal Counsel at Finvizier Consultancies.

I have overall responsibility for legal and compliance within the company, which includes drafting and negotiating contracts and ensuring regulatory compliance for clients, third parties, and employees. Collaborating closely with management, I provide legal risk assessments and strategic counsel to inform decision-making. Additionally, I contribute to developing policies that align with industry standards, promoting transparency and sustainability in our operations at Finvizier Consultancies

What are the most significant milestones in your professional journey?

After graduating from university in Russia, I faced concerns that there might be no space for me in the international market. However, I proved those doubts wrong. Arriving with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, I committed myself to continuous learning. I pursued additional studies in legal practices and gained recognition within the legal community.

A significant achievement in my career is my certification as a legal consultant and the establishment of Oryx Legal Consultant. Attaining this license was a key moment in my professional journey.

Negotiating high-value contracts worth millions was another significant event that solidified my position in the industry. Another milestone I reached in 2021 was to register my ownership and intellectual property with the Ministry of Economy.

What has been your success mantra over the years?

My mantra for success has always been to never give up. I believe that perseverance and resilience will always get you where you need to be, regardless of obstacles, failures, or uncertainties.
