Nursing has been considered one of the noblest professions for its inherent nature of service to humanity. As the need for healthcare services increases, so does the need for qualified and knowledgeable nursing staff. The Indian healthcare sector is rapidly growing, catering to millions of individuals every day, with nurses at the center of it all. To impart knowledge and inculcate ethics and morality into more aspiring nurses, Sri Aurobindo College of Nursing was founded in 2007 and was instituted by The Annai Sri Aurobindo Educational Trust and founded by A.R. Malaiappasamy, BSc (Agri), Ex.MLA of Tamil Nadu.
Prof. K.A. Angelina Baskar is a dynamic and visionary leader associated with the institution since 2009 as a Principal. She firmly believes in having an assertive demeanor to attain the goals that she set for the institution. She credits her mentors and especially her husband, who encouraged her to pursue higher education and take on the role of a principal.

Sri Aurobindo College of Nursing strives toward the fulfillment of its motto ‘To achieve excellence in nursing education, make it a tool for serving the society and delivering affordable health service to the poor and needy’. The college is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu Nursing Council, Chennai and is affiliated to Tamil Nadu. Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and prepares students for the ‘A’ grade certificate examination conducted by the same authority. We strive to develop comprehensive skills and knowledge in nursing care for all types of ailments; develop personal, intellectual, and professional qualities, and an understanding of the ethical principles.

Having completed my B.sc in 1992 and M.sc in 2001, I have 25 years of experience in this profession, working at various levels. Starting as a ward in charge, I further worked as an educator for 10 years in various institutions before donning the robes of a principal. Currently, while serving as the Principal of this institution, I am also pursuing my Ph.D. During my journey. I have completed various specialization courses in ACLS, BCLS, BTLS, IV Therapy Management, and Food Zone Therapy Course, in addition to rigorous clinical and laboratory practice, and received various accolades.
Throw Some Light On The Roles And Responsibilities That You Shoulder As The Principal Of Sri Aurbindo College Of Nursing. What Are Some Of Your Primary Focus Areas As The Principal?
As the Principal of this fine institution, I take-on the responsibilities of General Administration, which encompasses the planning & execution of the teaching curriculum and co-curricular activities, overseeing admissions, staff recruitment, Student conduct, Staff and student welfare & associated activities necessary for clinical experience for students. Additionally, I serve as an inspector at Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council Chennai, and The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.
Tell Us About The Different Courses And Programs Run By Sri Aurbindo College Of Nursing?
Sri Aurobindo College of Nursing offers multiple courses, including a Diploma in General nursing and Midwifery (three years), B.Sc. in nursing (four years), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (two years), and M.sc Nursing (two years). All courses are taught by experienced faculty members and supervised by separate coordinators.
What Are Some Of The Most Pressing Challenges That You Face In Terms Of Leading The College, And How Do You Mitigate These Challenges?
Being the first Nursing college in the Karur district, the institution initially faced challenges in procuring the necessary infrastructural facilities aligning with the INC norms. Secondly, being situated in a rural area, awareness regarding the nursing profession is scarce; thus, rigorous awareness campaigns are constantly organized.
In Your Opinion, What Are Some Of The Most Significant Milestones That You Have Achieved Throughout Your Professional Journey? What Has Been The Driving Force Behind Your Success As A Leader In Education?
Starting as a nurse, I committed to the role of an educator, delving into teaching, investigating, and policy making in education. As the first Indian placed in administration at King Abdullah Hospital in Saudi Arabia, I earned my first significant milestone. Following this, I became a Principal in leading colleges and adhere to the course curriculum. Finally, joining this institution.
I introduced various courses, including Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery, TADCO, DGNM, Post basic BSc Nursing, and MSc Nursing. Additionally, I have published my research and been a dynamic member of various national and international organizations like the Youth Red Cross Society, and TNAI, among others.
How Do You Foresee The Indian Nursing Landscape Evolving Shortly? What Is Your Vision For The College’s Growth Going Forward?
The thoroughly service-oriented profession of nursing is witnessing an ever-growing demand for qualified nurses. In the coming years, nurses with digital expertise will be in great demand as the arena of telehealth grows. As nursing is gaining so much prominence, the compensation for these jobs is also projected to grow. As an ever-shining profession, the nursing field is seeing a growth in the number of degree programs and online courses, enabling multispecialty and creating nurse practitioners ready to take-on full practice authority in healthcare centers.
Drawing From Your Experience As A Successful Educationalist, What Would Your Advice Be To Young Women And Girls Who Also Aspire To Become Business Leaders And Entrepreneurs In The Future?
My suggestion is to stay engaged, inquisitive, and reliable. Be a good example and keep your eyes on the prize. Develop effective communication skills and confidence in your ability. Develop your strategic thinking, and be willing to try-out new tactics. Develop an authentic leadership style that combines ultimate accountability with traits like perseverance, the joy of service, inventiveness, and patience.
