Take us through your educational journey and years of work experience as a marketing professional.
My educational journey began in an Army household, instilling adaptability and respect for the forces. Despite relocations, I received a top-notch education, including an MBA from SIBM. This upbringing sharpened my intellect and fostered a relentless pursuit of excellence. Starting my marketing career in 2001, I navigated diverse roles in start-ups and conglomerates, gaining insights as a management consultant. A significant tenure at The Times of India Group saw me drive marketing for REMIT2INDIA to global acclaim. At Edelweiss Group, I pioneered retail-friendly branding and sports sponsorships.
Joining ICICI Lombard, I led transformative initiatives, including groundbreaking campaigns like 'Game of Life', using gaming-inspired storytelling. 'Be Fit' and 'Salaam MSME' showcased our commitment to holistic healthcare and support for MSMEs. As head of Corporate Social Responsibility, I drive initiatives for positive societal impact. My career epitomizes perpetual growth and meaningful contributions in the evolving marketing landscape.
I advocate for fostering creativity, questioning norms, forming strong partnerships, & enjoying the journey with both internal & external collaborators
In your opinion what are some of the most critical challenges you encounter as a leader in marketing in today’s business climate? What steps do you undertake to overcome these roadblocks?
In the realm of modern marketing leadership, challenges abound, yet overcoming them is the catalyst for growth. Reflecting on my journey, several pivotal moments come to mind. Scaling Artha Property during the economic downturn post-Lehman Brothers collapse tested our resilience, requiring solidarity and voluntary sacrifices, teaching invaluable lessons in adaptability and selflessness. At The Times of India, orchestrating a nationwide newspaper 'key campaign' for a major auto brand posed intricate logistical challenges, demanding meticulous planning and flawless execution. These experiences honed my project management skills and emphasized the significance of teamwork and perseverance.
Similarly, rallying athletes for an Olympic send-off and orchestrating a press conference within five days highlighted the power of persuasion and collaboration. Adversities breed innovation and resilience, shaping leadership in today's dynamic marketing landscape. Even at ICICI Lombard, amidst the challenges of COVID and remote work, I successfully executed multiple large-scale campaigns within my first two weeks. Challenges, I believe, are growth opportunities, and with effective planning, teamwork, collaboration, and confidence, one can overcome any obstacle and emerge stronger than before.
Throw light on the most critical professional milestones you have achieved throughout your professional journey.
In my career, I've been fortunate to take on diverse roles that have provided invaluable lessons. At TIMESOFMONEY (REMIT2INDIA), I marketed an innovative online remittance solution, propelling it to become the world's top portal for money transfers. Transitioning to Artha Property, I spearheaded its growth from a small team to a thriving real estate company with numerous branches and employees. Heading Innovations at Times Group, I scaled innovation revenues significantly within a complex ecosystem. Similarly, at Edelweiss Group, I transformed the brand from B2B to consumer-facing, implementing creative initiatives to engage retail audiences.
My tenure at ICICI Lombard saw the launch of numerous industry-first initiatives, including the groundbreaking 'Game of Life' campaign and the AI-driven 'Claim Your Calm' initiative, showcasing our commitment to innovation and holistic well-being. These experiences epitomize my career journey, driven by a passion for creativity and impact. Beyond the accolades, each campaign represents a unique chapter, underscoring the transformative power of strategic communication and meaningful storytelling.
What has been your success mantra over the years?
My success mantra revolves around self-belief, a proactive and innovative approach, a strong sense of ownership, and a collaborative style. I believe in encouraging the team to think out of the box, challenge the status quo, building partnerships and bonds with internal and external stakeholders.
I am very self-assured and secure and define my standards and success metrics based on lives I have influenced or impacted positively. My ultimate focus is to deliver quality work, enjoy the process, and cultivate enduring relationships.
I am zealous about learning continuously, doing new, building brands, and exploring new technologies, tools, and ideas. Above all, it is about being a good human being, empathetic and authentic, and fostering strong bonds and mutual respect as professionals.
