Founder & CEO, Yataghan Jewellery, Yataghan Jewellery

In a world where many businesses focus solely on profits, there are a few rare gems that shine for a higher purpose. These businesses go beyond mere client problems; channelling their success into uplifting society, nurturing leaders, and more. Such an epitome of purpose and values is Yataghan Jewellery, led by Sarah Abudawood, Founder and CEO.

Every piece crafted at Yataghan is more than just an accessory; it is a story etched in elegance, minimalism, and heritage. The brand captures the essence of tradition while setting trends in the modern world. It has not only carved a niche in the jewelry industry but also earned the prestigious 'Jewelry Brand of the Year' award from the Saudi Fashion Commission.

Sarah’s commitment extends far beyond her business. She actively supports initiatives for women's health and empowerment and advocates for the development of young leaders. Her initiatives are driven by a profound sense of social responsibility and a desire to make a difference. Guided by the mantra of making the world a better place, Sarah strives to create an equitable workplace, a joyful society, and a prosperous nation. Women Entrepreneur Review proudly engages in a heartfelt conversation with Sarah, celebrating her impact.

What led you to establish Yataghan Jewelry? Can you tell us about the underlying idea behind the brand?

The idea was born out of a genuine need to create culturally and personally meaningful pieces. I've always cherished gifting, but I found that the market lacked jewellery that truly represented essence of giver and recipient, especially in terms of taste and design aesthetics. There was a void for designs rooted in our rich culture but fitting in a modern, minimalist style.

From women's health & empowerment to young leaders' development, sarah is dedicated to making a difference in her community & beyond

Moreover, Yataghan Jewellery is a tribute to my late mother, who adored jewelry. Even during her battle with cancer, she wore her jewelry around the house, celebrating life and the preciousness of each day. She was a remarkable person, and through this brand, I aim to celebrate the feminine energy, individuality, and stories of women. Jewelry, with its timeless nature, has the power to carry stories across generations. Creating pieces that become cherished heirlooms is at the heart of what we do.

Being an introvert, designing jewelry has become my voice, a way to share my experiences and connect with others. In 2014, Yataghan Jewellery became one of the first in Saudi Arabia to offer fine jewellery online, making quality pieces accessible.

Through the Saudi 100 Brands program, we are expanding internationally, and I feel a strong sense of responsibility to use this platform for positive change. Our goal is to create personal connections with our clients, guiding them through their journey with us. Our Yataghan Lab supports emerging designers, providing them with the resources and guidance they need to start their own journeys.

Giving back to the community is a core value to me. We collaborate annually with Zahra's Breast Cancer Foundation, share profits, and support new designers. I also lecture at universities, sharing my experiences and offering mentorship. Our brand is not just about selling jewellery; it's about making a meaningful impact and fostering a supportive community.

What is the most important professional milestone you have achieved?

The most meaningful milestone for me isn't about the number of stores we've opened or the revenue we've generated. It's about paving the way for future women entrepreneurs. Becoming one of the prominent women-led jewelry brands in Saudi Arabia and the GCC is a proud achievement, but more importantly, it's about inspiring women to come forward and achieve their aspirations. Speaking at universities brings immense joy, and their feedback reassures the impact. It's not the awards or recognition, but the positive impact on people's lives and dreams that truly defines my success.

How do you view your role in inspiring others? What is your view on preparing the future leaders of the nation?

I believe that every leader in a position to make an impact should be an enabler, helping others, especially women, find the courage to pursue their dreams. Being a role model means more than personal success; it's about enabling others to believe in themselves and strive for their own goals.

What advice would you give to someone starting their entrepreneurial journey?

Embrace your journey with passion while being authentic to your work. Show up every day with dedication and let your actions be guided by integrity. Understand that mistakes are part of the learning process, and manage your ambition to avoid burnout. Balance is key—between creativity and business, passion and practicality. Most importantly, believe in yourself and the difference you can make in others’ lives. Through every challenge and triumph, remember that your journey is not just your own. It's a path that can inspire and uplift others. Lead with generosity, give back, and let your legacy be one of empowerment and positive change.
