Ritwika Chowdhury: Helping Brands Reach Marketing Goals With Ai

Ritwika Chowdhury
CEO, Unscript

Technology leaders across the world have been bringing new light to the business ecosystem since time immemorial. Many platforms and tools that are available today not only have the capability to run business operations automatically, but also help improve it. AI has been such a kind of innovation that has helped businesses gain actionable intelligence through auto generated processes that in turn helped them grow. Ritwika Chowdhury can be counted among those leaders who have developed AI software and tools though which brands are able to reach the consumer base with minimum efforts. The Women Entrepreneur India magazine engaged in a conversation with her in order to know more about her and her views on the changing technology landscape.

Tell us about your educational journey and prior experiences in your career before you started off as an entrepreneur.

I graduated with a major in Electronics and minor degree in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur in 2019. During my college days, I majorly worked in AI research. It is because of my keen interest in entrepreneurship that I cofounded an AI startup during my college days. In 2021, I was able to conduct research and find out that the e-Commerce industry is facing severe trouble in the segment of video creation. Creating high quality videos with influencers and celebrities is a costly and time consuming affair. That is when I started developing Unscript. With Unscript, brands no longer need to keep on producing videos. Instead they can re-purpose previously shot videos using the power of AI to launch new campaigns, launch new products or send personalised video message and recommendation to each and every consumer. In the limited time that our product has been launched, we have already seen a lot of customer love..

Please elaborate about your startup.

Unscript is helps e-Commerce brands engage with their customers using personalized synthetic videos. Our product helps brands increase their online conversions by upto 3x.

We are a deep-tech startup and we have built our proprietary technologies and patentable AI models to generate celebrity led marketing videos that were never shot. This saves brands from previous time and money being spent today in producing these videos. We use AI to synthesize human expressions, movements and voice to generate new marketing videos/repurpose old videos. Our team brings experience from other foremost institutions like IIT Kharagpur, Microsoft Research, IIT Bombay, IIIT, BCG and more.

Globally e-Commerce is a $10 trillion market and expected to double to $20 trillion in the next five years. Every day, three million people are purchasing online for the first time. With Unscript's technology, brands now have an unprecedented advantage to reach and market this growing user base.

“Unscript helps e-commerce brands engage with their customers using personalized synthetic videos. Our product helps brands increase their online conversions by up to three times”

What are your current roles and responsibilities at unscript and how much impact are you able to make on a day to day basis?

I was a solo founder at Unscript so I had looked after both business and technology/research. In a very short period of time, I had raised a preseed round and a seed round. We also built the POC, onboarded first set of clients and built the founding team. It was after eight months of founding Unscript is when my Co-Founder joined the company. As the CEO of the company I handle multiple departments including funding, partnerships, tech and product as we are still a very young company. Since Unscript is a research driven product and given my background in AI research, I am also leading all the research initiatives within the company.

What are the various ways in which clients can be provided support by unscript to get their products and services marketed all among the consumer base?

There are three primary use cases in which Unscript tools can be helpful to our client.

A. Recover Abandoned Carts: Using Unscript, brand can now generate synthetic videos of their brand ambassadors personalised to every customer who have abandoned carts in their shopping journey. This video would directly address the customers, explaining why they should buy the product, often calling out the customer’s name, products visited by them. Brands can also use Unscript’s content delivery network to send across these videos via e-mail, whatsapp and web stories.

B. Guided Video shopping: Unscript brings in a totally novel way of shopping online. Imagine a world where while you are shopping on any website, your favourite celebrity is helping you all along, answering your questions, solving your queries. That’s exactly what Unscript’s video technology is able to power.

C. Video based Product Reviews: Using Unscript, brands can also repurpose previously shot product videos of influencers to create new product videos with hyper-realistic lip sync. This would save brands a great deal of time and money spent in reshooting newer videos.

Given your dreams and aspirations in becoming a successful entrepreneur, what is your message to all the young women and women tech leaders of the country?

I think networking is very important. I have always consulted my alumni, my founder friends in various aspects of my entrepreneurial journey. I want people to do the same and learn to network in a right way.
